SAN FRANCISCO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
MASTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES SPECIFICATION

We have completed the development of the Master Information Technologies Specification to serve as the foundation for the introduction of comprehensive Voice, Data and Multi-media services throughout the District. The development of this document involved the input of many groups and support of multiple agendas.

The final specificaton was developed in three sections that targeted each of the following audiences: Administrators, Instrucutors and Contractors. By developing these three different perspectives this one document could be used by everyone concerned with the introduction and use of technology within the disctrict.

The specification was beta tested at one school and was proven to have achieved it’s goals. This standard is now being used throughout the school disctrict on the many schools that are under renovation at this time.

SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY - TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE MASTER PLAN

Complete survey of 80 buildings throughout the San Jose State campus.

Survey included:

  • Survey of existing technology infrastructure
  • Identification of delta between the existing and projected, standards based, technology infrastructure
  • Redesign of all riser rooms and building entry points
  • Complete technology infrastructure budget development
  • Existing and new riser diagrams, all buildings
  • Development of relational data base for future access to information developed
  • Digital photos of all existing conditions and pressing of CD-ROM
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY AT NORTHRIDGE
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES MASTER PLAN

An Information Technology Strategic Planning document that stated agreed upon goals and objectives and an implementation plan for voice, data, and video technologies on campus.

Overall planning document synthesizing the Information Technologies requirements, and the associated Physical plant and applications consequences, to support of the growth of this site, hard hit by the Northridge earthquake. Work included:

  • Focus meetings with all interested groups
  • Multiple presentations to support consensus building
  • Research into other academic environments
  • Several draft reports
SUZZALLO LIBRARY
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

Complete conceptual Information Technologies design for the renovation of this 400,000 sf historic structure, resulting in a total re-design of the building to respond to the physical infrastructure requirements of the current and projected Library "model". We worked closely with the Library, Architectural and Engineering team under the direction of the University’s Facilities group. Based on two days of workshops managed by KC/future planning, we developed a model of the desired intellectual and teaching environment, and created the cabling, "active equipment" and Equipment Rooms required to support this projection. Following a presentation to the Building Committee, we completed a report delineating the complete system, and the associated Architectural and Engineering consequences. This report included a complete budget estimate.

OLD PHYSICS BUILDING RENOVATION
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

KC/future planning conducted a two day workshop during which we developed the Information Technologies design for this 160,000 sf building which, following renovation and expansion, is to become the "Technology Commons" for the University campus in Seattle. Our work included complete review of the current Architectural and Engineering Schematic Design documentation, as well as the identification of construction elements that had not been appropriately responded to up to this point in the design.

LIBRARY/LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO

Complete project management for the entire Information Technologies design and installation for new 140,000 sf Library on the Phelan campus. This work includes defining and designing the Voice/Data Teleconferencing and Multi-media requirements of the facility. We were responsible for the entire project, including all passive and active components, all project management during installation, negotiation with PacBell, which has saved $300,000 to date, and contractor management. Our work has included definition of the relationship of this facility to the academic requirements for the balance of the campus.

SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY - RESIDENCE HALLS TECHNOLOGY UPGRADE

Voice/Data and Video upgrade to 2200 residence hall locations in 13 buildings, both on and off campus. Work has included a complete review and upgrade of the entire campus conduit infrastructure connecting 11 residence halls, coordination with the Electrical Engineer and Architectural team supporting this effort, and preparation of complete plans and specifications defining the total scope of work. We are now in the construction phase of this work.

HAAS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
BERKELEY, CA

200,000 SF Teaching, Administration and Classroom facility on the UC Berkeley campus currently entering the Construction Document Phase.

Consultation included:

Preliminary Programming

  • Review of Design Development Documents to confirm appropriate Information Technologies infrastructure is in place.

Shell and Core Reviews

  • Redesign of "Core" areas to assure projected Information Technologies infrastructure is appropriately reflected in 75%, 90% and 100% Contract Documentation. This has included intensive coordination with the Electrical and Mechanical engineering team, modifying Network Closet sizes, Campus interconnections, establishing building-to-building connectivity requirements and reviewing the entire Computer Area complex design.

Standards Review

  • Review of internal University Information Technology standards as well as a Computer Policy Committee report to assure compliance with long-term Technology projections.

Conceptual Design

  • Development of the conceptual Information Technologies framework and cabling design to support stated School policies and standards.
COMPUTER SCIENCE BUILDING UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
BERKELEY, CA

100,000 SF "State of the Art" computer software development, teaching and research facility in the Construction phase.
Over 3 years our consultation included:

Physical Infrastructure Development

  • Complete review of the architectural design development, 50%, 75% and 100% drawings to establish conformance with projected information technology requirements.

Information Technologies Concept

  • Analysis of disparate network relationships and development of a strategic direction based on an advanced platform, development of schematic communication closet plans and overall riser diagram.
  • Preparation of several reports describing the architectural, electrical and mechanical engineering consequences of the approved network concept. This work included an analysis, with the Electrical Engineer, of the watts/sf required to adequately support current and projected computing equipment and budgets.
OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
OAKLAND, CA

PHASE 1 THROUGH 4
