ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURT, THE SUPREME COURT AND COURT OF APPEAL
SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Consultation included identification, design and specification of an infrastructure to support the AOC and Courts Information Technology in their move to the new San Francisco State Office Building. Their requirements were compared to the Department of General Services Office of Telecommunications standards to determine where the AOC and Courts would need additional support. Work was completed in the following four phases:

Discovery

Focused on three areas:

  • Existing technological environment
  • Existing infrastructure
  • Long range Information Technology plans

Computer Suite Room

  • Focused on validation the physical parameters of the three room suite.
  • Definitions of all systems necessary to support the equipment in an environmentally controlled and physically secure environment

Review of Building Infrastructure and Cabling System

  • Determined strengths and weaknesses of the building design and the States Telecommunications standards relative to the AOC and Courts needs

Periodic Review of Design

  • Maintain an acceptable physical infrastructure design up until the move-in to reflect changing technological developments.
  • Meet periodically with the AOC and Courts to ensure their evolving technological direction can be supported by the building design.
OAKLAND CITY HALL
OAKLAND, CA

Retrofit of a 250,000SF historic structure requiring a unique response to existing conditions while incorporating required Information Technologies. Consultation included:

Infrastructure Design

  • Defined physical infrastructure required for cabling and technologies within the context of the historic preservation parameters.
  • Coordinated required infrastructure with Electrical, Mechanical and Architectural consultants. Prepared electrical and HVAC requirements definition for network equipment rooms.

Network Design

  • Worked with the Office of Corporate Information Services to refine and finalize the Physical Layer of Information Technologies design and infrastructure.
  • Established the location and fit-out parameters of equipment rooms, closets and shafts, cable way locations, outlet and device locations.
  • Worked with the Client and Contractor to develop the network cabling budget.

Network Cabling Specification

  • Produced the RFP and documentation of the Physical layer of the cable plant. The Specification includes the definition of cabling to all nodes, vertical backbone cabling, distribution methodologies, patching, rack and rack accessory requirements, and the installation, testing and acceptance criteria for the installed Information Technologies cabling network.
STATE OF MONTANA, CAPITOL BUILDING
HELENA, MT

Complete technologies overview and budget for an upgrade of this 200,000SF historic structure. Includes coordination with a complete electrical and historical restoration study of the building.

Consultation involved:

  • Extensive site inspection
  • Interviews with all current and projected users
  • Conceptualization and definition of all physical infrastructure upgrade options
  • Preparation of Information Technologies upgrade report
  • Preparation of budget for all cabling and all infrastructure upgrades required
  • Complete design and implementation of Information Technology upgrade for this historic structure based on report completed in a previous Phase.
CITY OF FREMONT, ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDINGS
FREMONT, CA

Consultation and design for a renovation of 3 floors in two separate buildings to support new Computer Room(s), 10BaseT and RS/232 connectivity. Coordination with the Architect, Electrical/Mechanical Engineers and Telecommunications (phones) consultant.

Consultation included:

Physical Infrastructure Review

  • Complete review of all Architectural and Electric/Mechanical Engineering documentation to assure conformance with Information Technologies requirements.

Information Technologies Concept

  • Programming of all departmental requirements.

Design-Build Criteria Development

  • Written "Design/Build" criteria for all Passive components of the Information Technologies.

Project Management

  • Responsibility for the completion of the Design, construction coordination, acceptance procedures, final implementation.
CITY OF FRESNO, CITY HALL
FRESNO, CA

Construction of the new 200,000SF City of Fresno City Hall. Consultation included:

Existing Conditions Review

  • Review of initial ISDN network concept presented by the City, review of current networking requirements and preparation of a report delineating the complete current and projected network connectivity appropriate to the City's needs and growth.
  • Modification of architectural and engineering of this nearly completed structure to accept actual network requirements. Modifications included:
    • The general cabling distribution infrastructure and reinforcement of same to accommodate the substantially enlarged cabling complement required by actual network connectivity requirements.
    • Development of "satellite equipment rooms" separate from the base building facilities to allow cabling "backbone" to be extended closer to station locations.

Information Technologies Concept Development

  • Presentation of a cabling network concept to address functional needs, budget, architectural and cultural realities.
  • Design of the integrated communications system based on approval of the network concept.

Contract Documentation

  • Development of the cabling Contract Documentation to allow bidding of the complete network.
STATE INDUSTRIAL INDEMNITY SYSTEM
CARSON CITY, NV

Preliminary planning for 160,000SF data center and administrative facility. Consultation included:

Existing Conditions Review

  • Review of Architectural Schematic Plans for coordination with projected network requirements.

Physical Infrastructure Design

  • Review and selection of preferred horizontal and vertical cabling distribution strategies, including analysis of raised floor and ceiling distribution options, location and preliminary sizing of equipment rooms.

Information Technologies Concept and Design

  • Definition of conceptual network and equipment parameters.
  • Preliminary cabling media and equipment budget.
  • Preliminary review of vendor provided network media suggestions.
STATE OF CALIFORNIA , DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
RICHMOND, CA

Initial programming for new 300,000SF laboratory facility. Our scope of consultation included:

PHASE 1-EXISTING SITE RETROFIT STUDY

Consultation to the State to define possible Information Technologies retrofit options for an existing multi-building site.

Consultation included:

  • Complete site examination.
  • Review of all existing plans.
  • Questionnaire development to determine the State Lab Data and Voice requirements.

PHASE2-NEW SITE DEVELOPMENT

Information Technologies Concept Development

Consultation included:

  • Support of Architectural programming effort, identification of critical Information Technologies elements.
  • Review of Architectural programming documents.
  • Coordination of Information Technology Programming elements with Architectural/Engineering team.
  • Preparation of Report consolidating Information Technologies requirements for inclusion in final Programming document.
CALTRANS
OAKLAND, CA

Complete development of Request for Proposal for 29 Intelligent Wiring Hubs installation. Project was allowed five months from start to completion. Consultation included:

Preliminary Criteria Development

  • Configuration, design, installation, testing and support criteria concept for "concentrators" to be used in this 650,000 SF facility. Complete definition of "Active" equipment criteria for existing and future applications to be utilized with existing cable plant. Concentrators support 10BaseT, Token-Ring, and Appletalk Local Area Networks and Fiber Optic FDDI "backbone".
  • Review of existing hardware Vendor offerings, interviews with Vendors.

Specification Development

  • Written Request for proposal to allow a wide range of Vendors to respond to the criteria.

Project Management

  • Development of bid evaluation matrix, recommendation of Vendor, Contract negotiations.
  • Project management of installation, testing, implementation and final approval of equipment.
STANISLAUS COUNTY, DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES
MODESTO, CA

Preliminary design and budget estimates for every possible "active" equipment options to support multiple LAN and terminal connectivity for new 2000 station facility.

Review of 50% and 100% Contract Documentation.

Complete review of existing design to confirm "fit" of network requirements with Architectural and Engineering Contract Documents.

Consultation included:

  • Computer Room design.
  • Equipment Room design(s).
  • Current and future applications review.
  • Cabling media definition.
  • Cabling Distribution design.
  • Complete Electrical and HVAC requirements definition.

Completion of report to review existing information and develop a long-range Information Systems Plan for the implementation of new applications and technology over the next five years.

Complete peer review of existing network, architectural and engineering design to ensure a flexible, long-term network support infrastructure. Findings were incorporated into a report to the architect and into the A/E documentation for the interior fitout.

 
CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO - BUREAU OF BUILDING INSPECTION
SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Consulting to the City to enhance the performance of the internal Department of Electricity and Telecommunications group. Complete building "physical infrastructure" specifications, complete cabling conceptual design, project management during entire project.

Work has included:

  • Complete building review, design of all equipment closets, computer room, PBX area.
  • Complete cable plant conceptual design
  • Ongoing Project Management
  • Systems furnishings coordination
STATE OFFICE BUILDING
SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Worked with the HSH design build team to design and construct the new 1 millionSF State Office Building in San Francisco’s Historic Civic Center. Part of the building is a retrofit of an historical structure. The remaining portion of the building is a completely new high rise.

Consultation was based on a set of performance guidelines developed by the Department of General Services Office of Telecommunications and involved the following services:

Infrastructure Design

  • Defined physical infrastructure required for cabling and technologies.
  • Coordinated required infrastructure with Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural and Architectural Consultants

Network Cabling Specification

  • Produced the CSI formatted construction documents complete with CAD drawings for the physical layer of the cable plant. The specification includes the definition of all station cabling, vertical and horizontal backbone cabling, distribution methodologies, patching, rack and rack assembly requirements and the installation, testing and acceptance criteria for the installed Information Technologies Cabling Network.
  • Incorporation of specialized tenant requirements such as Franchise Tax Board, Department of Industrial Relations and several others into the standard design.

Contract Administration

  • Review of contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFI’s)
  • Field observation for resolution of Field issue conflicts and adherence to specifications. (Note: construction to be complete December 1998)
PORT OF SEATTLE CENTRAL WATERFRONT PROJECT
SEATTLE, WA

For this 100,000SF, we are acting as a prime contractor coordinating the efforts of the Audio Visual, Acoustical and Telecommunications Consultants.

Schematic Design Phase included:

  • Complete review of current documentation:
  • Architectural coordination.
  • Determine connectivity options with U.S. West and the Port of Seattle's Telecommunications Department.
  • Definition of all Information Technology physical infrastructure requirements.
  • Review of existing documentation for all Electrical, Mechanical coordination.
  • Coordination with all A/V requirements.
  • Preliminary Information Technologies budget.
